Kagerou, Batsubyoushimasu! Volume 1
Afterword
To be honest, I like the ocean adventure novels. Among them, I like the story of an escort fleet, including Alistair MacLean's "HMS Ulysses", C.S. Forester's "Destroyer Keeling (The Good Shepherd)", or Douglas Reeman's "Defending the Transport Convoy (For Valour)", and so forth, and I still put it in a prominent place on my bookshelf.
So, when first I heard I'm chosen to novelize "KanColle" story, I instantly decided to write "A story of destroyers' fleet escort growing together." Luckily, it just happens that the game itself has escorting missions, thus the lovely destroyers were thrown into the south sea with typhoons and sharks swarming inside (Unfortunately it's not in the north sea.)
At first, I was trying to have the 6th DesDiv and Fubuki as the main character, but since there was already a similar project, I thought of an idea of "How about the Kagerou-class or Mutsuki-class?" instead. I thought that's actually what I want, since I always thought that Kagerou-class was one of the best looking vessels in the navy, so that's not an issue. Of course the name ship, Kagerou, will be the protagonist in this novel.
The only anxiety I have is, inside the game, Kagerou isn't a character who stood out. Everytime she appears, the way it seems that she'll just be dismantled or become a modernization material. She's not rare, that's Yukikaze of the same class. Then, I asked other things about Kagerou to the editor-in-chief of the model magazine.
"Kagerou, huh? The only interesting parts about her is that she's uninteresting. How about Shiranui? Her model is one of our most best-selling. There are even clear photos of her."
Aren't you basically ignored here...? No no no. Then, I will make your characters shine. Let's become famous together! So I decided, she'll be a character with full of emotions, she'll cry, laugh, be angry, and become extremely busy. I planned her to look like a splendid main character as I imagined it should be.
Like this, Kagerou and the rest of the 14th DesDiv was born, and from now on, with the pride of being a destroyer inside their hearts, I expected them to play an active role and went to many adventures to the north and south. I don't know how long it will last, but please give me your support and thank you very much.
Finally, I'd like to thank my long-time acquaintance and friend, Navy Yard Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Tsunehiro Goto. Your great assistance really helped me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you.
